A Marshall County farmer who let his cattle die and linger near death has been prohibited from owning animals for the next 80 years. 

Published reports say Kevin Strope was also ordered to serve 20 days in jail Friday after he pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges related to the December 2011 discovery of dead and dying cattle on his farm near Cameron.

Law enforcement officials found 10 dead cows and more than a dozen others that were in poor condition. Thirteen cattle survived.

The judge said he would reconsider the animal-owning ban in two years.
