The U.S. Census Bureau says the Weirton and Steubenville metropolitan area is one of two in the country with the lowest percentage of high-income households.

It defines high income as being in the top 5 percent of national income distribution, which is a household income of at least $191-thousand dollars per year.

According to the report, only 1.3 percent of households in the area that includes two counties in the Northern Panhandle and one in Ohio were considered high income.
